כיום בירושלים יש מעל 3,000 מבקשי מקלט מאריתריאה, סודן ואתיופיה, כולל משפחות רבות עם ילדים. קהילת מבקשי המקלט מתגוררת בקשיים בכל ההיבטים של חיי היומיום, כשהיא חיה ללא מעמד פתור בישראל ותחת האיום המתמיד של גירוש. המרכז לקהילה האפריקאית בירושלים (JACC) נוסד ביולי 2014 על ידי קבוצה של ישראלים ומבקשי מקלט אפריקאים, והוא העמותה היחידה בירושלים העובדת עם אוכלוסייה זו. הצוות הקטן שלנו, יחד עם כמאה מתנדבים, מפעיל תוכניות קבועות רבות המתמקדות בשיפור איכות החיים של חברי הקהילה שלנו.
Today in Jerusalem there are over 3,000 asylum seekers from Eritrea, Sudan and Ethiopia, including many families with children. Living without resolved status in Israel, and under the constant threat of deportation, the asylum seeker community faces difficulties in all aspects of everyday life. The Jerusalem African Community Center (JACC) was founded in July 2014 by a group of Israelis and African asylum-seekers, and is the only NGO in Jerusalem working with this population. Our small staff, together with about 100 volunteers, run many regular programs focused on improving the quality of life of our community members.
